John East summarises the operational features & installation of the J-Retro 01 drop-in active/passive retro-fit preamp for J style basses. Michael Curtiss Ruiz demonstrates four different styles of bass part, with passive settings first, and then with appropriate active EQ settings. In contrast, Michael then plays a piece on his Modulus 5, illustrating the another East product, the U-Retro Deluxe. The demo set-up involves directly injecting the raw bass signal into Logic Studio on a Mac, using an East STMP-01 with EQ bypassed. This setting gives a buffered and razor flat balanced output.

Bill Bruford plays in it (later case was the main attractor). Spacey sounds introduce the mellow bluesy synth rock sound of this record, reminding a slightly more cosmic version of mid 1970's Pink Floyd sounds. The rhythms are not very unconventional, so the drum maestro is not highly in front. Somekind of reference of the sound could also be Alain Goraguer's music from the film "La Planète Sauvage", and some moments of Camel's "Moonmadness" record. In the songs there is usually some quite simple theme as leading them, and then the solos for melodic harmonies are introduced for supporting it. Though there are longer tracks on the album, they are built from very simple elements which do not construct very ambitious compositions. So quite easy-listening stuff, but not irritating to my ears in anyway, more like some kind of proto-new age record for relaxation and amusement due some symphatetic playful fooling detected from the music. This works also as perfect background music for playing Commodore 64 games (especially song "The Gold of The Gods" for Commodore 64's "Montezuma's Revenge" game). The last song "Return to The Stars" is really great, an open calm aural space with minimal amount of events, just distant harmony. I would recommend this for fans of vintage keyboard sounds, retrogamers. and certainly all those interested of von Däniken's fantastic books... MP3: bit.ly WAV: bit.ly I'd be the biggest liar in the world if I said I haven't spent more time completing side quests in this epic and instant-classic series than I have doing actually productive stuff in my life, forever. I've been playing this series since I was about 10 with Morrowind and have been hooked on the series for a decade now. I think I tried to play it off that I never played these games so that this medley would be a surprise, but it's hard to keep that shit in for so long. A huge thank you to the people that helped me record the vocal part for the Skyrim theme. This is the first cover I've done that incorporates vocals and I thought it turned out really great. The fact that we were able to bang it out in a half an hour (including learning the parts) was insane and these guys really came through. Also this medley was a great opportunity to try out solo instruments like classical guitar, piano, and of course, ocarina (all done in one breath, hence the minor shakiness... ouch). Hopefully more ocarina to come! Morning people! This is my cover of Crawl Through Knives by In Flames. Please watch this cover in HD, trust me, there is a HUGE difference soundwise! And this is probably my best mix so far! Don't want to miss that! I have recorded guitars and bass with my Line 6 POD UX2 audio interface. They were recorded 'dry', which means I have the clean signal from the pickups, which can then be reamped until I get the desired sound! Drums are still programmed, but now Im using Steven Slate Drums, which have improved my mixes a lot! The song is mixed and mastered by me using Cubase 5. This song was transcribed by ear, which means there may be some mistakes. For the solo I used my old multieffect processor board, BOSS GT-8 for the Wah effect. For video editing I used Sony Vegas Pro. Last but not least I want to inform you that I had some intonation problems during the recording of the cover, so you might notice it's slightly out of tune some places. Hope you enjoy the cover as much as I enjoyed making it! Even though I didn't play this game as a kid, the game quickly became very important to me very quickly. The story is a complete 180 in terms of mood and atmosphere from Ocarina of Time, but it's very fitting I think. Majora's Mask will be a game that I don't think I'll ever stop playing. I had a lot of fun with this one obviously. With everything that I've learned since my Ocarina of Time Medley, I was able to really shape the sound I wanted for this. I also backed this one up just in case it corrupted on me! I took a lot of time with the arrangement, combining the giants theme and Oath to Order and rearranging certain parts to make it sound good as one giant composition. I'm very pleased with it for the most part, however I felt that the guitar tones could have sounded better in retrospect. Even though I've been doing this for about 9 months, I still havn't found tones I can completely settle with. I know this one is important to the majority of you, so I did my absolute best not to let you guys down. I hope you like it and it hits you like it hit me. :) This is track 9 out of 10 of the second run of my Nintendo 64 Medleys. That means that this is the last game! I'm going to be working on finishing up the series and getting ready to go back to regular lengthed videos now. I ...

I also backed this one up just in case it corrupted on me! I took a lot of time with the arrangement, combining the giants theme and Oath to Order and rearranging certain parts to make it sound good as one giant composition. I'm very pleased with it for the most part, however I felt that the guitar tones could have sounded better in retrospect. Even though I've been doing this for about 9 months, I still havn't found tones I can completely settle with. I know this one is important to the majority of you, so I did my absolute best not to let you guys down. A string is the vibrating element that is the source of vibration in string instruments, such as the guitar, harp, piano, and members of the violin family. They are lengths of a flexible material kept under tension so that they may freely vibrate. Unfortunately, I didn't have an expansion pack when I was younger, making it impossible for me to play games like Perfect Dark, Majora's Mask, and this absolute classic. Luckily I was recently able to play through it and was absolutely blown away and completely impressed even with all of the hype. I know some of you guys might think I don't heed requests, but I hope this cover shows you that I really respect you guys throwing me these ideas, and I'll actually play through the games so that I can appease your needs. I have to say that I honestly feel kind of bad about last week. I wish I could have been more with it to give you a better quality cover, so I hope this one makes up for it. On the bright side, I've never done a whole medley as quick as I did this one. I've been celebrating St. Patty's day with friends (hence the green) so I only had a few days to whip this one together. The idea of just looked so lame, yet somehow, it ended up being such an amazing game! I'm not a huge fan of turn based combat past Final Fantasy and Pokémon, but this game really had everything. This game has to be one of my most requested. I'm always glad to meet your requests because it really feels like giving back for all the support. This cover also let me show off some Mr. Bungle influence. :D Okay, I'll be honest. I haven't slept much this week. I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping and I've been practically a zombie. I can't say I'm particularly proud of this one, just because I feel like between arranging and recording, I've been utterly delirious. They were one of the primary exponents of the British electronic pop music movement of the early 1980s. The band was particularly associated with the New Romantic and New Wave movements. Until 1979, the frontman of Ultravox was John Foxx who left the band to embark on a solo career. Following Foxx's departure, Midge Ure took over as lead singer, guitarist and frontman, and he helped to steer the band to commercial success. Ure left the band in 1987 after establishing a solo career and the group disbanded for a while. A new line-up, led by sole original bandmember Billy Currie, was formed in 1992, but without success. The band's most well known line-up of Currie, Cross, Cann and Ure reformed in 2008 and have toured together since then.The band was formed in 1973 on the initiative of vocalist and songwriter Dennis Leigh, a then Royal College of Art student, and was originally known as Tiger Lily. Dan Rucinski (Land of Atlantis) has put together a cast of heavy hitters to collaborate on this studio project called Digital Tape Machine. Kris Myers (Umphrey's McGee) is the percussion backbone of this driving force. Myers had the opportunity to co-produce these tracks along with Dan Rucinski and Chris Harden. He is featured on all ten tracks that will be released in June 2010. During brief breaks from their US tours Kris and Joel Cummins (Umphrey's McGee) would stop in for recording sessions before heading back on the road. Other contributing artist include Marcus Rezak (The Hue). Chicago is home to some of the most passionate recording artists. These tracks originated from song writer Rucinski's dance/electronic/rock/hip hop vision and molded into what some might call video game music. I know in the past that I've expressed that I'm not the biggest fan of FFVII, but this song really is badass. Still, there's nothing douchier than having you're own name chanted in your own boss battle music. Good going Sephiroth. -.- Last week, I tried some new things with the lead tones with dual tracking and for some reason, no matter what I did, it just did not sound right in this song. I felt though that there were enough guitar tracks panned all over the place that it could work. Also, there is such a ridiculous orchestra track that it glitched in the export. The carrying over of that note during the first 'chorus' was unintentional, but compared to the other exported tracks, it was a million times more bearable. Other then that, mixing was just over the top heavy and balls out! Hope you guys enjoy it! It used a lot of really interesting chromatic harmonies and slides that I thought it would be interesting and fun to play on guitar. It was a real challenge in some parts though. I've been doing modulations a lot lately and thought I'd put a bit more effort into the transition between keys, and I kind of liked how it sounded. It used a lot of really interesting chromatic harmonies and slides that I thought it would be interesting and fun to play on guitar. It was a real challenge in some parts though. Hey there! This is my cover of Down From The Sky by Trivium. This song is one of my favorites from their album Shogun, because of its simplicity and great riffs. This song is normally played with 7 string guitars, but since I don't have one I had to tune down my 6 string guitars. As usually all guitars are recorded through my Line 6 POD Studio UX2, but instead of using PODfarm as my amp tone, I have used some free guitar amp sims with impulses. In this cover Im using both my ESP Viper and my Ibanez RGT42DX (Solo part). Drums and bass are programmed. Keep in mind I have just switched from EZDrummer to Superior Drummer 2.0, and Im still learning how to use it properly and how I can get a better mix with the drums (requires a lot of processing), so bare in mind it might sound really bad some places! I learned this song by ear, but had to look at some tabs for the solo part and for some certain harmonics. It's a quite fast and hard solo to play, so don't expect it to be 100% correct.
